coop-weekInternational Co-op Week is Oct 13th-19th and there are lots of exciting events planned in the region. Here is a partial list:


Tuesday, Oct. 14th, 8:30-9:30 am: Join us for the UCCC Co-op Week 2014 launch at the Kootenay Bakery Cafe Co-operative, 377 Baker St. in Nelson. We’ll have celebratory coffee, tea and cake at Co-operation Before Breakfast, an informal networking/social opportunity for co-operators.

Wednesday, Oct 15th, 7 -8:30 pm: The UCCC will host a free film screening/social  in theKootenay Co-op Radio downstairs meeting room, 308a Hall St, Nelson. We’ll show Mark Dworkin’s documentary Shift Change: True Stories of Dignified Jobs in Democratic Workplaces. There’ll be delicious food from the Kootenay Co-op Store and the Kootenay Baker, with co-op week door prizes donated by the Nelson and District Credit Union.  All are welcome.

Wednesday Oct 13- Sunday Oct 19 the Kootenay Co-op  will draw for daily prizes and host fun, co-op inspired games.  

All week Kootenay Co-op Radio will air radio documentaries about local co-operatives. Tune in at 93.5fm in Nelson, 96.5fm Crawford Bay and Kaslo, and 107.5fm in New Denver. 

Thursday, Oct 16th: is Credit Union Day. Join local Credit Unions for a day of fun, information and refreshments. This year’s theme is “Local Service, Global Good.”
The Nelson and District Credit Union is offering its members and  the community snacks, prizes and giveaways at all branches, as well as an opportunity to donate cash and non-perishable food items for local food banks. Heritage Credit Union is hosting a community barbecue between 10am and 2pmKootenay Savings Credit Union will host a day full of fun, games, prizes and refreshments at all branches. What better way to change the world than by joining and using local co-ops and credit unions? Keep democracy, decision-making and money in your community.
